Aligned Labs is seeking to expand their team of expert consultants with PhD Materials Scientists for part-time, fully-remote work supporting frontier AI research. The role involves stress-testing leading AI models on materials science problems and verifying AI-generated reasoning against the standards of trained materials scientists.

Responsibilities

• Stress-testing leading AI models on research-level materials science problems
• Creating and verifying complex questions and explanations in your area of expertise
• Assessing whether AI-generated reasoning meets the standards of a trained materials scientist

Skills

• PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a closely related field
• Fluent English reading and writing skills
• Actively involved in research with publications in peer-reviewed journals within the last 2 years
• Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and research scientists at universities or national laboratories
• Researchers at government agencies, corporate R&D labs, or materials-focused startups
• Independent or affiliated researchers with an active publication record
