Role & responsibilities
The Digital Business Intelligence and Analytics (DBIA) group at large Technologies company is looking for a Taxonomist to fulfil the creation, maintenance, and governance of taxonomies as well as manage the attributes associated with them. Stakeholders include the taxonomy governance group, ontology governance group, product management group, taxonomists, ontologists, system owners, business unit stakeholders and IT developers. It is expected that this role will have a heavy communications component including education. As a Taxonomist, this person fulfils the following taxonomy roles: Subject Matter Expert, Advocate, Stakeholder Requirements Gatherer, Agreement Facilitator, Project Manager, Educator, Consultant.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience working in taxonomy management and governance in a large organization.
- Proven record of creating taxonomies from business requirements.
- Experience researching, identifying, and documenting requirements, as well as enforcing standards, agreements, and charters.
- Understanding of knowledge content management and development, as well as search and retrieval tools.
- Basic understanding of semantic ontologies.
- Familiar with NLP engines.

- Able to work within a complex environment with many stakeholders.
- Fluent in English.
- Available to work during US time zones at least 4 hours/day.
Education
- Degrees in Computer Science or Library Science.
- Minors/Certificates in Data Structures and Algorithms, Computational Linguistics.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience with SKOS standards.
- Experience working with Graph databases, ontologies, and Natural Language Processing strategies for relevant and robust optimization.
- Knowledge of TOMS tools like Semantic Web Pool Party, TopQuadrant Edge, GraphDB Ontotext a plus.
